2nd Street Overnight closures start tomorrow
There will be overnight closures on 2nd Street starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 and Thursday, September 13.
As you may have noticed, we’ve started to remove the falsework – or temporary supports – for the southbound lanes of the South Approach. The closure is needed for the part of the approach spanning 2nd Street. This work is not related to the current Main Span float-in and will not affect two-way traffic across the river or access to local businesses and residences.
All lanes will reopen daily by 6 a.m., and parking will remain available on 2nd Street immediately east of the bridge (from the east access ramp to Sibley Street) for those visiting businesses in the area. Drivers can access downtown Hastings at 3rd Street or 4th Street.
Main Span Float-In Reschedule
Now that the entire span is on the barges, it’ll remain moored in the river until the move scheduled for later next week.
We’ve had to postpone the actual float-in again because we want to make absolute certain that each of the intricate details is accounted for on this historic move. We now plan to float in the new span next week.
As with the entire process, this initial movement is likely to take some time and may be best viewed via webcams and video that will be available on the Project’s website (www.dot.state.mn.us/hastingsbridge).
More detail about the float-in process is available on the Project’s website as well.
The following is information you should know and share for the sake of your customers, deliveries, drivers and employees.
As of today:
The week of September 17 (but not before September 18)
Motorists traveling through the area will encounter a closure of Hwy 61 at the Mississippi River. The highway will remain closed for up to 72 hours. Motorists travelling through the Hasting area should follow the signed detour using I-494, Highway 52 and Highway 55.
We’ll let you know at least a day in advance of the closure.
All through river traffic will be suspended again.
Access to downtown businesses and residences will remain open during the entire float-in and lift process.
This schedule is subject to change. Updates about the closure will be available on the Project’s website (www.dot.state.mn.us/hastingsbridge).
